If you have an old mattress, it’s time to get rid of it. An old mattress loses its structure over time and lumps can develop or even cushion deterioration. If you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night finding yourself switching positions because of pain or numbness, it may be time to get a new mattress. They may be your favorite shoes, but are they offering you arch support? Uncomfortable shoes can change the way you walk resulting in your posture also changing. Every step you take can create pain for your back. If you have shoes without proper arch support, you may have to stop wearing them or purchase insoles.
How many times have you heard this? About 70-80 percent of women are currently wearing the wrong bra size. It’s advised women get properly fitted to avoid possible neck, mid and lower back pain, pinched nerve and shoulder pain. When there is no proper support in the front, this can cause the upper back and shoulders to slouch forward. Back pain from wearing the wrong sized bra can impact women of all sizes, but more so for women with a C-cup or higher.
This one is a no-brainer. Bad posture leads to back pain and other ailments. You may not realize it right now, but your shoulders are probably slumped as you’re reading this. Roll your shoulders back and sit up in your chair. Also, make sure your neck isn’t hunched forward or at a downward angle. Maintain the same posture as you walk. Your muscles have to work extra hard to compensate for bad posture.
According to a study done by StyleList, the average weight of a woman’s purse is 6.27 pounds. Some women carry a purse and up to two additional bags. Sometimes, a bag within a bag. Many men and women carry book bags or laptop bags to fit their 3 lbs or more laptop plus other items. Some bags could weigh up to 12 lbs or more. This added weight on shoulders, plus improper shoulder strap adjustments, can cause shoulder pain and a hunched over posture.
Office or School Chair
Every chair is not created equal. The chair may look comfortable or have a particular arch on the backrest for support. In reality, that arched backrest wasn’t customized for YOUR back. If you have an uncomfortable office chair and spend the majority of your work hours sitting, you’ll definitely feel the pain. If you can, swap out your chair or take a brief walk away from your desk. Simply getting up and walking to a restroom further from your office can relieve back pain. You can also try standing at your desk for about 10 minutes every 30-45 minutes.
Your body needs water! Between every two vertebrae, lies shock absorbing disk. There is an outer and inner layer. The inner substance of these vertebrae is primarily water. Throughout the day, the disk slowly loses water but can rehydrate at night…IF your body is properly hydrated. If functioning properly, the outer layer supports approximately 25 percent of the weight. The inner layer supports approximately 75 percent. When the inner layer isn’t properly hydrated, it cannot support its designated weight. This causes the outer layer to hold more weight than it was made for. This can lead to spine swelling and other back problems.
Stress and Depression
Stress and depression are powerful! They can wreak havoc on your body. Not only can they both cause headaches and fatigue, they can cause back pain. Whether you realize it or not, when you’re stressed or depressed, your muscles can become tense which leads to pain. Try to lower your stress levels the best you can and you’ll find that your back pain will slowly fade away.
